Corona Cards
Friends!
I have an idea and we have time and that’s very powerful...
If we’ve met, you know my birthday is a thing. For many months now, I’ve been saying I wanted to be anywhere but here this year, and now I have no choice but to be nowhere but here. As of now- Los Angeles will still be in lockdown through April 15th and probably beyond. It bums me out and makes me sad but I realize I’m not the only one and there are plenty of people spending all sorts of occasions differently than planned.
We are all navigating this new normal of limited movement and interpersonal interaction, and while I absolutely appreciate the already growing amount of digital communication happening (zoom me) - I thought it might be a nice departure to reinstate some technology of a bygone era.
You've Got Mail |
If you can do so safely- I invite you to send some good ol’ snail mail to some of our loved ones who might be in need of a brighter day. We can all send to each other’s people for maximum smile-spreading. Birthday cards, love letters, photographs, Easter/Earth Day notes, poems, postcards, recipes, artwork - (if you send me a chain letter, I’m subscribing you to the $cientology mailing list) - anything at all! The collection of blank ‘thank you’ cards and undelivered valentines that sit in my writing desk have been poised for this moment, if not this occasion...
**I have envelopes galore, so if that's your excuse let me know and I will send you some first!**

I also thought it would be a great creative activity for those with kids at home who could Picasso some masterpieces for faraway friends, pen-pal style.
I’ve made a google form where everyone can input recipients and they will automatically be populated to an address list that we can all use to send from. They will be in chronological order from when they are added so you can keep track of new updates. I hope that everyone who submits will also send to others. If you only want to send things, you can follow the prompts on the form to just do that, as well. It requires an email for safety.
If you know of anyone celebrating, missing a celebration, away from family, someone’s grandma, or anyone in need of a token of love that you would like to include, please add them. Everyone loves getting mail and I think we could all use a little human connection (and art therapy)!
For anyone who might be concerned about this being a threat of exposure, fear not, I did some research and multiple sources stated “There is currently no evidence that COVID-19 can spread through the mail," the postal service said, citing the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization as its sources of information.” But let’s all exercise some extra care and disinfect/wash our hands before and after, k? No licking stamps.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or issues!
Thank you for your creativity and contributions!
Stay safe.
Xx
